This species occupies 53 per cent of total bamboo area in India. This is one of the predominant species of bamboo in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal and Western Ghats. Widely distributed in India in semi dry and dry zone along plains and hilly tracts usually up to an altitude of 1000 m., also commonly cultivated throughout the plains and foot hills. D. strictus is widely adaptable to temperatures as low as -5oC and as high as 45oC. This species is mainly found in drier open deciduous forests in hill slopes, ravines and alluvial plains. It prefers well-drained, poor, coarse, grained and stony soils. It occurs naturally in tracts receiving as low as 750 mm of rainfall and also in extensive gregarious patches or as an understorey in mixThis species is one of the two most important bamboos in India. It is found suitable for reclamation of ravine land. It is extensively used as raw material in paper mills and also for a variety of purposes such as construction, agricultural implements, musical instruments, furniture etc. ed forests and teak plantations.

Gardenia is a genus of about 250 species of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, southern Asia, Australasia and Oceania.

Large Cardamom (Amomum subulatum), a member of Zingiberaceae family under the order Scitaminae is one of the main cash crops cultivated in the sub-Himalayan ~tate of Sikkim and Darjeeling District of West Bengal covering an area,of about 30,000 ha. The annual production varies from 5000-5500 metric tonnes . It is also cultivated in parts of Uttaranchal and in. some other North Eastern States. They originate from Hawaii, South America, New Zealand, Polynesia and we have 8 native species here in Australia. Cordyline australis varieties are best grown in the Melbourne climate and usually have a single trunk with several ascending branches, each topped with a large thick mass of long sword like leaves, the colours range from green, purple and yellow shaded with dark pink.

The ginger variety whose rhizomes are suited best for our products has the botanical name Zingiber Officinale and belongs to the family of zingiberaceae. Its homeland is Southeast Asia. Ginger has few natural enemies and pesticides are not generally needed. Ginger plants require very well drained fertile soil at fairly high and Low altitude as well as a steady rainfall.

The aroma of ginger is subtle. It is made up of specific fine scents. The flavour comes from the ginger oil. Ginger contains proteins, iron, bitter substances and other active biological ingredients which stimulate the stomach and the metabolism and strengthen the physical capabilities. This ginger is a high yilding varity with less fibers.

Typically, blue-flowered species predominate in the Northern Hemisphere. This is a cosmopolitan genus, occurring in alpine habitats of temperate regions of Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Gerbera flowers comes in vibrant colours adding beauty to your garden. It has around 40 species spreading from Africa across the tropical Asia and South America. Gerbera are plants with a height up to 18 to 24 inch and 4 to 10 inch diameter flowers.

Nandina domestica ( Heavenly bamboo or Sacred bamboo )

It is native to eastern Asia from the Himalaya east to Japan.

It is an erect shrub growing to 2 m tall, with numerous, usually unbranched stems growing from the roots. The leaves are evergreen ( sometimes deciduous in colder areas ), 50 - 100 cm long, bi-to tri-pinnately compound, with the individual leaflets 4 - 11 cm long and 1.5 - 3 cm broad.

The young leaves in spring are brightly coloured pink to red before turning green; old leaves turn red or purple again before falling.

Dendrobium hybrids are the largest group of orchid sub-tribe which contain more than 1,500 species and possibly thousands of hybrids. They are found from the orient and tropical Asia down to Australia.

They can stand temperatures from 45° to 95° F (7°-35° C), the ideal temperatures are 60°-85°(16°-30° C).

Most people are introduced to orchids through phalaenopsis orchids. These are the thick-leaved plants with elegant, arching sprays of blooms that can be seen in so many design magazines and sitting on coffee tables across America. There are about 60 true species of phalaenopsis; they are native to tropical Asian countries including the Philippines, Borneo, Java and elsewhere.

Syngonium species are often grown as house plants, usually only in the juvenile foliage stages.
